After more than a year of restrictions, governments are starting to roll out measures designed to get things back to normal. With this in mind, residents of Spain can now apply for a digital certificate that will help them move more freely across the EU.The EU Digital COVID Certificate—or Covid Passport—introduced by the European Union, came into effect on July 1, 2021. The certificate is designed to provide EU citizens and residents with a digital document they can use to prove that they’re at low risk of transmitting coronavirus to others. Public authorities or private businesses can validate these certificates throughout the EU, and in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Norway.This means that EU residents will be able to travel safely while avoiding quarantine and testing. Plus, you’ll have your Covid Passport on your smartphone whenever you need it. Read on to learn more about this new certificate and how to apply for it. The Covid Passport, officially known as the EU Digital COVID Certificate, is a digital certificate issued to individuals who meet at least one of the following requirements:There are two ways to apply for your EU Digital COVID Certificate—either through your local health department or through the Spanish Health Ministry. Regional authorities are responsible for issuing Covid certificates, so we recommend you visit the website of your local health department, or your nearest public health center. This way, you’ll be able to choose whether you want your Covid Passport in digital or paper form.You can also apply for your EU Digital COVID Certificate by logging onto the dedicated website set up by the Spanish Health Ministry. To obtain the certificate, you'll need a Digital Private Individual Certificate or your "Cl@ve" username and password.

What is the Covid Passport?

- They’ve received a negative Covid-19 diagnostic test result within the last 48 or 72 hours (requirements differ from country to country).
- They’ve recovered from a Covid-19 infection.
- They’re available in both digital and paper form.
- They’re reliable and secure—with a QR code and electronic signature to prevent forgeries.
- They’re completely free of charge.
- They come in two languages: the issuing country’s language (Spanish) and English.
- They’re valid in all EU member states.
