One year ago today, N26 officially launched in the U.S. Over the past 12 months, we have worked to build a banking experience that is transparent, secure, and beautiful; designed to not just meet your day-to-day banking needs, but to make managing your finances personal and delightful.
With nearly 500,000 customers in the U.S., you are at the heart of everything that we do; which is why our team has spent the past year collecting feedback and building features and services that you want most.
A beautifully simple banking experience
According to a survey of 10,000 adults across Europe and the U.S. commissioned by N26, almost 75% of Americans used a negative phrase like “worried” or “nervous” to describe their feelings about their finances. To help overcome this stress, we started with design.
Whatever you need to do, we believe you should be able to do it right away with just a few taps. This is why earlier this year, we launched the Actions tab, with a clear design that’s simple and intuitive to use. Whether you need to find the nearest ATM to withdraw cash without paying a fee, lock or unlock your debit card, or instantly send money to a friend with MoneyBeam, this section of the app is always on-hand to help you perform any task.
We also made adding money to your N26 account easier than ever. You can now transfer money from an external bank directly from the app, move funds from an external debit card, or sign up for direct deposit and get paid up to two days earlier¹ than most big banks.
Making mobile banking secure and supportive
The coronavirus outbreak caught the entire world off guard, and stay-at-home and social distancing measures fundamentally changed the way we interact with our communities and our finances. Across the U.S. people have felt the strain and stress of the pandemic firsthand, and now more than ever, many have sought a banking solution that is transparent, reliable, and designed to help them take control of their finances.
In response to the challenges that came with COVID-19, we accelerated our integration of Apple Pay and Google Pay, two of the most requested features for N26 in the U.S., to help ensure the safety of our customers and make contactless payments more convenient than ever before. We also bolstered our customer support team to help answer any account questions you might have, and to provide live in-app support to help with your specific situation.
A personal, rewarding way to manage your money
Seeking to create a banking experience specifically designed to fit your lifestyle, we continued to partner with exciting brands through our Perks program, bringing you automated discounts and cashback right from the app. Over the past year we worked with brands like Headspace to help you put your mental well-being first, Booking.com, to allow you to explore the world for less, and Adidas to empower you to reach your goals, and look and feel your best.
This past year has been anything but predictable, and we’ve seen your savings goals evolve and change, particularly as 2020 continues to unfold. At the beginning of the pandemic, we saw a 19 percent increase in Spaces created for house and apartment expenses, reflecting the shift to businesses shutting down and many Americans working from home. As travel restrictions kicked in, and social gatherings were put on hold, so were Spaces dedicated to saving for special occasions and travel. However, now that restrictions started to loosen up in some states, we’ve seen a 50 percent increase in Spaces related to special occasions, showing that consumers across the U.S. have started to save with an optimistic eye towards the future.
