The contactless payment limit doubles to €50

Over the past few months, more and more Italians have begun choosing contactless payments as their preferred method of payment while shopping—and it’s not hard to see why. This easy-to-use technology allows you to pay for your purchases in seconds, simply by holding your card or smartphone near the card reader. There’s no need to use coins, banknotes, or to even touch the POS terminal. Contactless payments are one of the simplest, most practical, and—above all—safest ways to pay.

And now, contactless payments have become even easier! Previously, any contactless payment over €25 required you to enter your PIN number on the card reader to complete your payment. But as of January 1, 2021, the contactless payment limit has now doubled to €50.

So, how does it work? Any time you choose to make a contactless payment under €50, all you have to do is hold your N26 Mastercard or smartphone near the NFC-enabled card reader until you hear a beep—there’s no PIN required. For security reasons, only when you reach a cumulative amount of €150 will you need to enter your PIN to confirm your identity. Merchants offering contactless payment methods will have already updated their systems to allow you to pay according to the new limit of €50, so you’re good to go!
