N26 becomes a member of Deutschland sicher im Netz
Going forward, N26 and Deutschland sicher im Netz e.V. will be working together to improve online security and advance society’s understanding of this issue.
Criminal activity has increased hugely within the field of online retail on a global scale, since the start of the pandemic.
Berlin – N26 is becoming a member of Deutschland sicher im Netz e.V. (DsiN). This announcement was made by the mobile bank and the charitable alliance today. Together, these two partners will be working to improve online security and consumer protection for digital transactions and advance society’s understanding of these issues. This task is more pressing than ever: criminal activity has increased hugely within the field of online retail, on a global scale, since the start of the pandemic. According to the 2020 Federal Situation Survey recently published by the Federal Criminal Police Office, the number of offenses registered by the police increased by 7.9 percent in the previous year, reaching a figure of 108,000. This also saw the first instances of fraud connected to mobile payments: criminals were able to use phishing and social engineering to obtain the information needed for online banking and use it to make fraudulent online payments.
“Our goal is to make dealing with money online more secure,” says Valentin Stalf, co-founder and CEO of N26. The mobile bank wants to tell consumers about the risks currently posed in an open, transparent way, giving them the understanding they need to independently undertake digital financial transactions, and feel in control when doing so.
“It is particularly important to us that we talk to consumers on an equal footing so we can encourage them to undertake digital financial transactions in a secure, confident way,” adds co-founder and co-CEO Maximilian Tayenthal.
In the past, N26 has launched initiatives and information campaigns to teach people about security and fraud within online retail. This includes a comprehensive security manual encompassing tips and further information about online shopping. The partnership with DsiN is intended to expand the information it offers and make it accessible to more people. “We believe that increasing efforts to inform people about the digital sphere is a responsibility shared by the world of business, the state and civil society. That’s why, as an association, we’re working to encourage dialog between stakeholders across Germany and in every part of society. That’s the only way we can generate the best results in terms of digital security for consumers and companies alike. We’re delighted to be able to draw on N26’s expertise and dedication as a new DsiN member and a leading start-up from the financial sector, with the aim of further strengthening our impact,” states DsiN’s managing director, Dr. Michael Littger, reflecting on the collaboration.
