A word before getting started

Our goal is to make N26 Crypto as easy as possible and that means sharing the risks with you: The market for crypto assets constitutes a high risk. Crypto assets are subject to high fluctuations in value—declines in value or a complete loss of the money spent are possible at any time. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. The statements above do not constitute investment advice. N26 Crypto is powered by Bitpanda GmbH.

FAQs about crypto coins

A cryptocurrency coin is one unit of any currency that exists virtually. Cryptocurrency coins are secured by cryptography. Though different coins may have different uses, many coins may be used to trade, store value, or buy certain goods and services.

There are two categories of cryptocurrencies: coins and tokens.

Altcoins are any crypto coins other than Bitcoin. They’re called altcoins because they are viewed as “alternatives” to Bitcoin, and many altcoins aim to improve or iterate on certain aspects of Bitcoin. With that said, there are thousands of altcoins in existence and their uses (and potential uses) may vary greatly. Some of the most popular altcoins are Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Cardano (ADA)—all of which you can buy with N26 Crypto.

The main difference between a token and a cryptocurrency is that tokens don't have their own blockchain. They're non-native assets and need to use the infrastructure of another blockchain.

With N26 Crypto, you can buy and sell over 350 coins directly within your N26 app. Current coin offerings include some of the biggest cryptocurrencies by market cap, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and many more. Be sure to do your research on the different types of cryptocurrencies before trading crypto, as each project may have its pros and cons to consider.

Our partner Bitpanda constantly monitors the market and picks among the coins with the highest market capitalization. They then analyze the legitimacy of each coin, and evaluate them to make sure they live up to legal and compliance standards.

N26’s selection of coins is based on that of our partner, Bitpanda. We will continually add new coins, so stay tuned for updates.

Crypto is typically subject to capital gains tax and may be subject to other taxes as well. The rules relating to taxation vary by member states and are constantly evolving, so do your research and understand the tax implications before making your first trade.

Bitpanda GmbH is an Austrian-based financial technology company that offers a platform for trading cryptocurrencies. N26 has partnered with Bitpanda Gmbh to offer N26 Crypto, an easy way to trade over 350 cryptocurrencies directly from your N26 app. For all purposes, it is Bitpanda and not N26 that offers and provides—through the N26 application—the services of buying and selling coins and the custody of customers’ portfolios.**
