About the opportunity

We are seeking a Head of Business Internal Audit to lead and oversee all business internal audit activities across N26 SE and N26 Bank SE.
Our Internal Audit team provides independent, objective assurance to improve operations and ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements. We believe in a risk-oriented and process-independent audit approach to strengthen the overall governance framework of our organization.
This is a high-impact leadership role offering the opportunity to shape audit strategy, manage a skilled team, and ensure regulatory alignment across an evolving fintech environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and manage the Business Internal Audit team, ensuring effective operations and continuous development.

  • Collaborate closely with other audit teams and coordinate joint audits across departments.

  • Oversee and coordinate all business internal audit activities of N26 SE and N26 Bank SE, including engagement with external contractors.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk-based audit plan, updated annually in line with organizational and regulatory needs.

  • Conduct audits across all N26 SE business processes, including outsourced services, typically within a three-year cycle.

  • Prepare and review written audit reports, clearly communicating findings to operational teams.

  • Monitor remediation of audit findings within agreed timelines and follow up to ensure completion.

  • Support audit management in their oversight duties and provide insights for continuous improvement.

  • Participate in key strategic projects while maintaining independence and avoiding conflicts of interest.

  • Conduct special audits as needed, at the request of the management board.

What you need to be successful:

Background:

  • Successfully completed degree in business, law, or comparable field.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Business Internal Auditor in a regulated international environment, preferably in banking, financial services, or auditing firms.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of business processes and strong familiarity with online banking and retail financial products.

  • In-depth knowledge of German banking laws and regulations, with a willingness to learn additional local banking legal frameworks.

  • Proficiency in both English and German (any additional European language is a plus).

  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional stakeholders.

  • High level of integrity, analytical thinking, and independence in executing internal audit duties.
