Whether you’re a die-hard believer in the zodiac or an astrology skeptic, there can be something fascinating about these archetypes and their characteristics. If you start reading about astrology, you’ll discover different star signs, rising signs — and eerily accurate personality profiles.

Every month in the Zodiac x N26 series, we’ll explain what character traits each star sign has and explore how these characteristics relate to money-management. This month, we’re looking at Pisces. Let’s go!

The Pisces star sign

Named for the Latin plural word for “fish,” the constellation of Pisces is the 14th largest in our galaxy, the Milky Way. Because of its size, 17th-century astrologers suggested that the constellation should be split into four parts: the north and south fish, and the north and south cords. One hundred years later, a proposal was made to designate some of the stars in the Pisces constellation as a new, separate constellation named “Testudo” (the Turtle).

Even the Babylonians were familiar with the constellation of Pisces — although they knew it as “The Tails.” This reference also connected the constellation with Ishtar, the Mesopotamian goddess of love. The ancient Greeks adopted this meaning, and in Greek mythology the two fish represent Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, and her son, Eros. According to myth, Aphrodite and Eros were fleeing from a monstrous giant named Typhon when they jumped into the river Euphrates and transformed themselves into fish in order to escape.

What are Pisceans typically like?

Pisces is the last of the 12 star signs, starting on February 20 and ending on March 20. Along with the star signs of Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius, Pisces is a mutable sign. These signs are particularly flexible and good at dealing with change. Just like the element of water that their sign is associated with, Pisceans are able to flow with the tides of life and can adapt to new environments or situations uncannily well.

The two sides of this dreamy star sign are symbolized by the pair of planets that rule Pisces: Neptune and Jupiter. Neptune brings inspiration, fantasy, and the connection to illusion and the supernatural. Meanwhile, Jupiter encourages happiness, optimism, and spiritual and intellectual growth. Similar to the symbol for Pisces — a circle formed by two swimming fish — these two planets demonstrate the duality of this water sign. There’s often an internal conflict with Pisces between living in an illusory dream world or in the real one. And as the final star sign, Pisces brings together all of the experiences and lessons from the preceding eleven signs: all of the joy and pain, the hopes and fears. That’s yet another explanation for the intense empathy and emotion of this star sign.

Pisces characteristics and personality

With their deep positivity but tendency to get in their own way, it’s obvious that Pisces is a water sign. The strength that is most often attributed to them is their sensitive and compassionate nature — they have a highly empathic streak that helps them put themselves in other people’s shoes, and they’re good at picking up on feelings and mood shifts.

That’s why many Pisceans are good listeners, very understanding and selfless (maybe more than is good for them). They’re often overflowing with creativity and are real dreamers who see any and every goal as achievable. Thanks to of their natural sensitivity, they use their intuition as their guide — although it’s only truly reliable if they have a handle on their emotions.

Because this star sign is more in touch with their feelings than other signs, Pisceans tend to be overly sensitive and touchy. However, they avoid conflict as much as possible. With their dreamy nature, they often lack discipline and tenacity and can come across as messy and disorganized. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have big plans, though — quite the opposite! From the outside, it might look like their goals are unrealistic, crazy, or pulled out of thin air. Despite their tendency to avoid decision-making, Pisceans seldom let themselves drift away from their goals once they’ve set their eye on something — no matter how much other people might try to dissuade them.

Pisces and money-management

Now that we know more about the Pisces star sign, let’s look at how these personality traits affect Pisceans when it comes to money.

How do Pisceans deal with money?

When it comes to money, most Pisceans are very good at earning a stable living — even though money is generally not something that they place value on in their lives. To Pisces, it’s much more important to put money to good use and help people who don’t have it as easy. When they’re not donating to charitable causes, people born under Pisces often end up losing their money as fast as they earn it — they can have a weakness for impulse shopping. But since their self-worth isn’t attached to material things, this doesn’t bother them very much. They completely rely on their talents and trust that money is “easy come, easy go.”

Still, Pisceans should be careful who they trust. Thanks to their impressionable and empathic nature, it’s easier for them to get hoodwinked by scammers and crooks.

Financially, Pisces — like their whole personality — is a roller coaster ride of emotions. People with this sign can swing between earning a lot and spending a lot, which doesn’t necessarily make them the best saver of all the star signs. Nevertheless, they’re aware of the importance of money, and they usually make sure to have at least a small nest egg — either for themselves or for people in need.
