If you’ve ever justified just having to have the new color of phone or headphones, you know the feeling. The color isn’t just a color, it’s a statement that that item is yours. That it reflects your personality.Personalization is one of our most important brand pillars. So that’s why we’ve launched 2 new colors for our Metal cards. Today we’re happy to introduce all 3 of them together: Charcoal Black, Quartz Rose, and Slate Grey.

Keeping that essential connection

More than anything else, we wanted to maintain Metal’s minimalist and essential qualities. When you pay with Metal, it’s more than just a transaction. It’s a statement. Metal’s success has really confirmed that approach. We heard a lot of positive feedback about its design and look.So we naturally asked ourselves how we could bring that same design to more people. And to make it match their personalities better. The first thing we noticed when doing user testing was the wildly different responses to each color. People were immediately drawn to one and couldn’t imagine having the other. In keeping with this minimalist principle, we decided to give the colors names with physical connotations. Charcoal, quartz, and slate are very real and physical substances. They are also very basic substances that capture a feeling. That was important. We didn’t want to distract from Metal itself, but just add a twist to the concept. It was actually pretty hard to name the colors. Our card designers practically stared at them under different lighting until they realized none of them were exactly one color. The veneer coating catches the light differently depending upon the angle. That way, it’s ultimately up to you how you see yourself using the card. And where you use it. If you’re an existing Metal customer—don’t worry. You’ll be able to reorder your card in the coming months. But only if you want to. Your original Charcoal Black card still remains a collector’s piece.
