Personal Bank Account FAQ
You can open your mobile N26 account online in minutes from your phone or the N26 WebApp—no paperwork or waiting times. But best of all: Once your N26 bank account is active, you can start using it right away. This means you can start spending with your virtual card as soon as your account is set up, and you don't have to wait for your physical card to arrive.
In order to open a bank account with N26, you must have a government-issued ID. Don’t worry, there’s no fussy paperwork or long wait times involved—just present your valid ID during a quick call and you’ll be up and running. It’s worth noting that you’ll also need a smartphone to use your account, and must live in an eligible country where N26 operates.
You’ll need to be at least 18 years old to open a bank account with N26.
The standard N26 bank account is free and doesn’t charge any opening or maintenance fees. The N26 Smart bank account costs €4.90 per month, the N26 You bank account costs €9.90 per month and the N26 Metal account is available for €16.90 per month. To open an N26 account, no deposit or minimum income is required.
The major difference between a personal bank account and a business account is what it’s used for. As the name suggests, personal bank accounts are designed for personal, day-to-day use. Conversely, business accounts are only intended for business transactions. A business account gives you a better overview of your business expenses and enables you to store the relevant receipts more easily. This blog post tells you more about the differences between these two kinds of accounts.
No, you can’t hold two N26 accounts at the same time.
Before you begin to change banks, there are a few things to keep in mind. The N26 account switching service is currently only offered in Germany, Austria, and Spain—IBANs from other countries cannot be processed at this time. If you want to switch your checking account, it only takes 10 minutes to request the service. However, please note that after you’ve submitted your request, it may take up to 7 business days for us to contact all parties. Last but not least, keep in mind that we offer the account switching service together with our partner, Qwist GmbH.
With N26, you can only have one active account in your name. Currently, it’s not possible to have two N26 accounts under the same name. This means that you can’t have a private N26 bank account and an N26 business account at the same time.
