Bank Account for Freelancers FAQ

No. Right now, you can only have one bank account with N26. If you already have an N26 Personal account for your personal finances and wish to open a Business account, you’ll have to close your personal Standard account first. Then you can open your business account.

N26 Business is a bank account that’s designed for freelancers and the self-employed. This account is in your personal name and can’t be in the name of your business. If you’re self-employed, it helps to separate your personal and business finances and with N26 Business, you can do this from anywhere—directly from your smartphone or the WebApp on your desktop.

To open an N26 Business bank account for freelancers, you must meet our eligibility criteria. If you do, open your bank account from our website or by downloading the N26 app on a compatible smartphone. The opening of your business account takes only minutes, and is done without paperwork. Once you've verified your identity, your business bank account will be ready to use. For more information on opening an N26 Business bank account, as well as the documents you need, visit our Support Center. If you already have an N26 Business account, you can directly upgrade to an N26 Business Smart, N26 Business You or N26 Business Metal account from the N26 mobile app.

To open an N26 Business account, you must use your personal first and last name. This business bank account is designed for freelancers and the self-employed who conduct business operations under their own name. This means that your company name cannot appear on the N26 Business account or card.

The major difference between a personal bank account and a business account is what it’s used for. As the name suggests, personal bank accounts are designed for personal, day-to-day use. Conversely, business accounts are only intended for business transactions. A business account gives you a better overview of your business expenses and enables you to store the relevant receipts more easily. This blog post tells you more about the differences between these two kinds of accounts.
