FAQ
It’s a real debit card designed for children and teens aged 7 to 17. The card is linked to a dedicated Space in your N26 app, allowing your child to gain financial independence while you stay in control and manage their spending in real-time.
It works just like any other debit card. Your child can use it anywhere Mastercard is accepted — in stores, online, and for contactless payments. Children aged 16 and above can also add it to N26-supported digital wallets, including Apple Pay and Google Pay (age requirements for digital wallets may vary depending on your country).
As a parent, you can add money to their card instantly, monitor their spending, and set limits for card payments. The ATM withdrawals made by your child count towards the monthly withdrawal limit of your own account.
To get started, open the N26 app and select ‘N26 for under 18s’ in the Spending tab. Provide a few basic details about your child and upload their original birth certificate. We’ll then create a dedicated Space within your account, linked to your child’s card. You can top up their card instantly by moving money into this Space. Finally, pick their favorite design and order the card.
It depends on your plan. N26 Smart, Go, and Metal customers can open Spaces and order cards for free (for up to 2 children with Smart and Go, and up to 5 with Metal). Standard customers can open a Space and order a physical card for one child for a one-time fee of €10.
As a parent, you have control over your child’s card — you can track transactions, set daily spending limits, decide how much can be withdrawn from ATMs, and adjust other settings to suit your child’s needs. There are also built-in protections, like certain types of transactions that are automatically blocked. That includes things like gambling sites and adult content, so parents don’t need to worry about those slipping through.
The maximum amount of cards for under 18s you can order depends on what N26 plan you have. N26 Go and Smart can order cards for up to two children. N26 Metal can order cards for up to five children. For N26 Standard, you’ll pay €10 to order up to one physical card.
Yes. You can temporarily lock and unlock your child’s card directly from your app. If you prefer to deactivate it permanently, you can do it instantly from the app’s settings — just be sure to move funds into your main account first.
The card will continue to work until it expires three months after your child’s birthday. Once they turn 18, they can open their own N26 account.
No. Children under 18 don’t have access to the N26 app. As the parent, you’re the legal owner of the funds in your child’s Space. Your child can use their physical card to spend, while you stay in control through your own app — you can lock or unlock their card, move money in or out, and manage limits anytime.
